The Life of Truman: a Truman Show fanedit

About the project

In 2016, a Redditor posted an idea for a fanedit of The Truman Show in which all instances of the outside world are removed such that the viewer experiences the movie with the same ignorance as Truman himself, and I was inspired to bring it into existence. The resulting film is about 70 minutes long, compared to The Truman Show’s ~100.

Notes (please read before watching)

This project was rushed, and completed within 7 hours. The current version has a number of minor technical problems, including frame rate judder and some mistimed cuts. These are unlikely to ever be fixed, as the original Final Cut file has since been lost, and I don't plan to recreate it at this time.
June 2022 update: I found a backup! I'll see if I can get it working again. I'll update this page if I do, but feel free to email me at the address below if you'd like to be notified!

There are a few moments where the quality changes abruptly. This is due to the image appearing only on a part of the screen (i.e. displayed on a screen within the movie) and is unavoidable without access to the original footage.

Finally, keep in mind that some of the removed scenes are required for it to completely make sense. I strongly recommend only watching this fanedit after first seeing The Truman Show. This is an experimental take, not a version trying to "fix" the original!
